Kingscare

kingscareOur vision is to meet practical needs in developing countries through self-help, medical, educational and training projects. Our aim is to see the Church of Jesus Christ blessing the world by showing the love of God in a practical, caring way. Kingscare works overseas in partnership with local churches or ministries where we have a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. We monitor the effectiveness of all projects through written and verbal reports and through personal visits. We wish to give people the opportunity of showing love to those in need through giving without guilt or condescension.

Bio Simon Hannington,

our contact at Kingscare
jessica-and-simon-2Born and raised in India, I have always had a pull on my heart to those that have been short changed in life, it breaks my heart at the sight of even the smallest injustices.
Having not been back to India since I was 14, I returned after ten years to have some extensive dental work done in time to get my smile back for my imminent wedding, only God had another plan. Between dental works, I was roped into visiting the community work of New Generation Church in Delhi, which I enjoyed but saw little point to my being there. At the end of my 2 weeks God spoke to me, very clearly, he said “Have you really given your life to me?” to which I was quite confused. I felt I had. So I spoke with Sanjiv, a close family friend who happened to be the pastor at New Generation Church. He helped me see that perhaps God wasn’t questioning my salvation but questioning what I was doing with it, and in the light of my own personal convictions was I using my life for him, or not. I figured I wasn’t, so I went in search of a life given to God.
To cut a long story short, almost four years later, January 2008, God spoke again very clearly. He told me I was going to work For Kingscare. With my wife Jessica working there, I already knew that it was impossible and that there weren’t any vacancies. So I went to the director of Kingscare, George Dowdell, and told him “I am going to work for Kingscare this year”. To which he replied “I don’t know how but I agree!” that July I quit my very successful job, working for the largest alcoholic beverages company in the world, and was appointed Assistant Director of Kingscare.
My dreams and desires have been instrumental to my being a key part of Kingscare and its future. This is essentially, to reveal the heart of God to the body of Christ. To see the church taking responsibility for the underprivileged and the marginalised - meeting the needs of the poor at a grass roots level, making contact and touching lives.
I want to see the body of Christ moving in what they believe, not looking from the outside in, but from the inside out. A people that loses the attitude that says “there’s plenty of people, someone else will do it.” Christ like radicals that get on with making a change, seeing “change” as their responsibility. Not doing out of duty but out of love.
Although on a day to day basis there are a lot of things that distract me from doing this actively, it continues to be the driving force behind all that I do within Kingscare.
